MACKINAW  AREA  ATTRACTIONS

The Mackinac Bridge  is the most spectacular sight of the area.  The Mackinac Bridge is a Five Mile Long Suspension Bridge connecting Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.  The main towers stand 552 feet Above the Water.   It is a thrilling drive across and a beautiful sight at night with the colorful lights.  Only motorized vehicles are allowed on the bridge except for Labor Day for the famous "Bridge Walk" and the finale of the Big Mac Bike Tours in June and September. 

Mackinac Island is accessible by plane or boat.  Three Ferry Lines transport Passengers from Mackinaw City every 15-30 minutes.  The 15 minute ride across Lake Huron gives beathtaking views of the Mackinac Bridge, Round Island Lighthouse and Mackinac Island.  There are no cars or motorized vehicles allowed on the Island.    This is a historic "Back in Time" journey.  You may bring your own bicycle on The Ferry Boats or rent a bike on the Island.  The 8.2 mile ride on the Shoreline Road around the island is beautiful.  There are also interior bike paths and walking trails with many areas to explore.  A  2 hour carriage tour will Show and Tell you all about the Island.  If you prefer horseback riding, you may rent a horse or horse and buggy for your own private touring.  The Famous "Grand Hotel" may be toured or partake in the "Grand Lunch Buffet".

Fort Mackinac is located on Mackinac Island.  It portrays the Life and Times of the early 1800's.  Enjoy Military Re-enactments, Musket Firings, Cannon Salutes and Tour original Buildings of the Settlers of that time period. 

Mill Creek State Historic Park  is located just 3 miles South of Downtown Mackinaw City on U.S. 23.  This 600 acre park hosts a reconstructed water powered Saw Mill.  The nature trails can be walked for 3.5 miles to enjoy birds,  trees and wildlife.  Look for the trees chewed by the beaver and the beaver pond.  A one-mile long trail is handicap accessible.

Colonial Michilimackinac  is located in Mackinaw City.  This authentic British Military Fort and French fur trading village is fun for the whole family.  The re-enactments and portrayals of daily life of the soldiers and settlers are educational and realistic.  The re-enactment of the Battle for the Fort which runs all Memorial Weekend will make you fell as if you were there.
